Takeover: R Evolution was mirrored on Wednesday night as Sami Zayn left Orlando with the NXT Championship and a beat-down from Kevin Owens.
Zayn was powerbombed onto the ring apron by former friend Owens in December moments after defeating Adrian Neville with a Helluva Kick to snare the NXT Title for the first time in his career.
And the fan favourite was battered by Owens again at Full Sail University this week having just edged Newcastle grappler Neville in a scintillating rematch for his belt.
Owens silenced the NXT crowd with another punishing powerbomb on the champion but the audience created plenty of noise during Zayn and Neville’s dust-up.
Zayn deployed the Blue Thunder Bomb and an exploder suplex, while he also evaded a Red Arrow from Neville before retaining his strap with an expertly-timed boot to the Brit’s face.
Elsewhere on NXT, Finn Balor downed Tyson Kidd with a double stomp off the top rope, while Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch conquered ring generals Natalya and Charlotte in Divas tag-team action.
Baron Corbin also wowed NXT supporters, clocking Bull Dempsey with End of Days to draw first blood in what looks likely to be a long, bitter and extremely physical rivalry.
Dempsey, whose bout with Corbin followed weeks of stare-downs as well as ringside fracas, started strongly, but came up short when The Lone Wolf rolled away from a top-rope headbutt and walloped him with his eye-catching finisher.
