Tom McEwen added an individual eventing silver medal to the team gold Great Britain won earlier in the day on Monday at the Tokyo Olympics.

McEwen took silver in the individual competition on Toledo De Kerser after a faultless clear round. His British team-mates Oliver Townend and Laura Collett missed out on individual medals though.

The trio had earlier secured gold in the team event.

Townend had two fences down to finish fifth in the individual competition. Collett, meanwhile, had eight faults when the final two fences in her round dropped, and she finished in ninth. Julia Krajewski of Germany took gold.

Krajewski becomes the first woman in Olympic history to be crowned eventing champion while the bronze medal went to 62-year-old Andrew Hoy of Australia.

"It's not really hitting me - it's taking a bit of time," McEwen said.

"It's all been super special and he's [Toledo De Kerser] been unbelievable. I've messed up in the past in places where I shouldn't have, so to give it back to him is great."

McEwen also paid tribute to Team GB showjumper Scott Brash over the lines and distances to take during his test and said his help had proved invaluable.

He added: "Scott gave me a lot of help before I started, which was super helpful. For us coming out again, you have no idea [how it is going to go], it could have gone one or two ways - and he went more excitable.

"You just crack on with the job. If I get him into the right place, he's going to get up in the air so it's only me that can mess it up really. I must say I've loved the pressure this week, for me it's why I get up every morning."
