Motorsport's governing body to ensure future of series is secured
The FIA says they are committed to securing the long-term future of the World Rally Championship after the series' parent company went into administration. Convers Sports Initiatives (CSI), which owns rights holders North One Sport, went into administration last week. Although North One Sport are not in administration themselves, there is now a need for investment to be secured ahead of the start of the new season in January. At Wednesday's meeting of the FIA's World Motor Sport Council, the world governing body announced that the registration date for manufacturers to enter the 2012 WRC season had been put back to December 19 as a consequence of CSI's demise. And the FIA also added that they are working hard to get the sport back on a firm financial footing.Future
"The World Motor Sport Council discussed the recent developments involving the Championship Promoter, North One Sport, and its parent company, CSI, which has gone into administration," an FIA statement read. "The FIA is committed to ensuring the long-term commercial future of the championship and will make every endeavour to provide for its future stability. "The FIA is working on an immediate plan to ensure the fundamental sporting and safety elements will be in place for the start of the 2012 season." North One Sport have insisted they are "optimistic" of finding investment to secure the future of the WRC. A statement said: "North One Sport is involved in detailed discussions with a number of interested parties regarding the future funding of the business and is in regular dialogue with key WRC stakeholders.
