Australian surfer Mick Fanning was competing in the world tour event in Jeffreys Bay, South Africa when he had to fight off two sharks!

This is the incredible moment Australian surfer Mick Fanning was attacked by a shark in South Africa during the J-Bay Open.

The world No 3 was in the final with fellow Australian Julian Wilson when he was knocked off his board by a shark.

Fanning appeared to punch the shark several times as the shark pursued its prey for around 15 seconds.

The safety boat and one of the event jetskis raced in; Fanning boarded the latter and was taken to safety.

Although not hurt, the Australian was shaken by the incident, in which his legrope was bitten clean through.
