Mark Selby in first-round exit at World Championship

Defending champion Mark Selby suffered a shock first-round exit at the World Championship after losing 10-4 to Joe Perry.

Selby was heavily fancied against the world No 22 after winning back-to-back World Championship titles in 2016 and 2017.

However, the world No 1 struggled from the outset and quickly found himself four frames behind to the oldest player in the competition.

Selby briefly recovered to 7-4 but Perry held his nerve to complete a famous victory over the three-time champion.

Perry will now face either Mark Allen or debutant Liam Highfield, who begin their first-round match on Sunday.
