Mark Selby has withdrawn from the Shanghai Masters following the death of his father-in-law.
Selby, who was only 16 when his own father died of cancer, withdrew from his first-round match against David Grace.
The 2014 world champion has returned home to the UK immediately from China to be with his wife Vikki.
A statement from World Snooker said: "Mark has pulled out of the Bank of Communications OTO Shanghai Masters due to a family bereavement.
"The world number one flew home to the UK on Wednesday. He was due to play David Grace in the first round, so Grace receives a bye into the last 16.
"Our condolences go to Mark and his family at this sad time."
Leeds-based Grace will now play Mark Allen in the second round.
