Giant-killer Allen back at the Crucible, Bond survives marathon.

World Snooker Championship big-names will be looking out for Mark Allen again after he booked his return to the Crucible after last year's giant-killing act. Northern Ireland potter Allen beat Ricky Walden 10-8 in the final qualifying round for the World Championship at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. 22-year-old Allen beat Ken Doherty at the Crucible last year and will be hoping to repeat his form after defeating Walden. "I put myself under too much pressure and although I played okay in the first session, I was trying to protect my lead too much in the second instead of going for it like I normally do," said Allen.

Safety

"What won me the match was my safety, because I didn't make many breaks. "But I held myself together well in the last frame. I took a few extra seconds on each shot and concentrated a bit more. "I enjoyed the Crucible so much last year and that added to the pressure. There's no arena like it. It just feels different." Stuart Bingham will also be back at the Crucible after he beat Adrian Gunnell 10-3 thanks to breaks of 69, 74, 90 and 55. "I went to Portugal to play golf last week because I didn't want to sit at home and have to think about this match," said 31-year-old Bingham. "It's a big relief to get through after missing out for the last six years."
Davis back
Sussex cueman Mark Davis will make his fifth Crucible appearance in seven years after a comprehensive 10-2 victory over Kent-based Northern Irishman Gerard Greene. Davis won the last 10 frames after Greene clinched the opener with a 138 total clearance and the second on the black. Former World Championship runner-up Nigel Bond booked his place after an eight hour 38 minute marathon battle with Barry Pinches. Bond will play at the Crucible for the 14th time in his career after coming from 7-6 down to win 10-7 He said: "I didn't feel good all day but just kept scrapping."
