O'Brien and Campbell make it into first ruond of China Open.
Marcus Campbell was pushed all the way to earn his place in the first round of China Open, while Fergal O'Brien also made it through in Beijing.
Scotsman Campbell made two century breaks but had to work all the way to the line by Chinese wildcard Ah Bulajiang before he prevailed 5-4.
The Dumbarton cueman was grateful to a missed red from his opponent before he made his game-winning break of 45 to seal the match and book a date with Mark Williams in the first round.
"I made two centuries but he played really well and it was a tough game," said 35-year-old Campbell. "I was very impressed by the way the Chinese lad played.
"The table was very fast, which meant that it was easy to open the balls. Then it was just a matter of controlling the cue ball, and I managed to do that well in certain parts of the match.
"I'm looking forward to playing Mark Williams now. The last time I played him was also here in China and he beat me 5-3."
O'Brien through
Irishman Fergal O'Brien was an easier winner but he had to come from 2-1 behind before winning 5-2 against Cao Xinlong.
66 was the highest break of a scrappy encounter, but O'Brien was too wily for his opponent as he earned a first round match against Stephen Maguire.
"He had a chance to go 3-1 up which would have made it very different, but at least at 2-2 I had the chance to regroup," said O'Brien.
"It's been a very good season and this is my last tournament so I'm trying as hard as I can to finish in style."
Mike Dunn hit breaks of 92, 63 and 51 during his comfortable 5-1 success over Yang Qintian, while Barry Pinches will play Graeme Dott after beating Zhang Anda 5-1.
