Bristol teenager maintains 100 percent attendance in ranking events

Judd Trump produced another notable victory as he beat former world champion Mark Williams for a place in the inaugural Bahrain Snooker Championship. In-form Ricky Walden also came through the tough qualifying stages in Prestatyn, but while Steve Davis struggle through fellow veteran John Parrott lost out and will not head off to the tournament. 19-year-old Trump confirmed his immense promise with a shock victory over world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan as he made the semi-finals of the Grand Prix in Glasgow last month. Bristol potter Trump has been finding a high level of consistency and his 5-2 victory over left-hander Williams ensured he qualified for his fourth tournament out of four this season. Two-time Crucible winner William missed out on the final stages of a ranking event for the first time in 12 years when he failed to qualify for the Grand Prix, but he must now miss out on another one after being beaten by Trump. The youngster fired in breaks of 122, 103, 82 and 74 to overpower Williams in Prestatyn, and he now takes his place in the line-up for the tournament in Manama which starts on November 8.

Walden through

Also through to the ranking event at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre is another rising star Ricky Walden. The recent Shanghai Masters champion came from 2-0 behind to defeat Jimmy Michie 5-2 when rattling off five frames on the bounce. Two breaks of 62 and a highest of 92 put Flintshire's Walden through to a possible meeting with Stephen Hendry in the last 32 of the competition - although he will have to face a wildcard match if he is one of the six lowest ranked qualifiers. Michael Holt blasted Irishman David Morris out of the water with a thumping 5-0 victory in their match - almost handing Morris an unwanted record. Nottingham potter Hold allowed Morris to score just ten points in the five frames, just two more points than the record lowest total for a best-of-nine tie in a ranking event. Dominic Dale was in top form as the Welshman stopped veteran John Parrott from making the Bahrain tournament, as he whitewashed the former world champion 5-0. Dale wracked up breaks of 137, 85 and 79 to scupper the Liverpudlian's chances of making yet another ranking event.
Veterans
Parrott's fellow veteran Steve Davis will be taking part in Manama though, but only just, as he came through a nine-frame thriller with Atthasit Mahitthi. The Nugget was involved in a tough battle with the reigning world amateur champion from Thailand, and in the end Davis won through by just the odd frame in nine. Other ranking event regulars such as Joe Swail, Ian McCulloch, Anthony Hamilton and Fergal O'Brien all failed to make it through qualifying. Stephen Lee got through with a 5-1 win over Andy Hicks, while Michael Judge put out improving Chinese star Liang Wenbo to join Barry Hawkins, Robert Milkins and Stuart Bingham in the tournament.
