Shaun Murphy won the first professional snooker tournament ever staged in South America as he thrashed Graeme Dott in the final of the Brazil Masters. Murphy took just 64 minutes to win a battle of two former world champions as he romped to a 5-0 success in Florianopolis. A break of 81 gave the Englishman the first frame and he also took a scrappy second before runs of 54 and 70 gave him a 4-0 lead at the interval. Murphy then rubbed salt into Dott's wounds with a total clearance of 139 to seal a commanding victory. "I got better with each match through the tournament and played my best in the final," world number six Murphy said. "It's a great opportunity we've been given, to go around the world playing the game we love. "I'll have very fond memories of Brazil and I would love to see this become a regular event. The people here are very enthusiastic, they have enjoyed it and I think this is a market that can be expanded. "This is a great time for snooker and it's very exciting to be part of it with so many new formats and new locations." Earlier in the day, Murphy had also hammered Stephen Hendry 5-1 in the semi-finals, while Dott saw off Peter Ebdon 5-2 in a repeat of the 2006 World Championship final also won by the Scot.
