Caitlin McClatchey retires from swimming after 10-year career at the top

Dual Commonwealth gold medal-winning swimmer Caitlin McClatchey has announced she is retiring from the sport.
The 29-year-old Scot has decided to call a halt after a successful career, during which she competed at three Olympics and won gold medals in the 200m and 400m freestyle at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
McClatchey is currently studying for a masters degree in performance psychology at Edinburgh University and is planning to help other athletes when she her studies are complete.
She said: “After an incredible 10-year career competing at three Olympic Games, winning multiple world, Commonwealth and European medals, I have decided to retire from competitive swimming.
"I have some amazing memories and I am very proud of my achievements in the sport. My career highlight was when I became double Commonwealth champion and won Scotland's first gold medal at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
“I'm very excited to be starting a new chapter and taking on new challenges. Once I have finished my masters degree in performance psychology, I want to be involved in sport and help others to perform at the highest level.
"I'm looking forward to supporting the next generation of British swimmers and watching them achieve incredible things at the Rio Olympics next year.”
