Vanessa Mae has won damages from the International Ski Federation (FIS) over claims she took part in fixed races in order to qualify for the Sochi Winter Olympics.

The violinist competed for Thailand at the 2014 Games, finishing 67th and last in the giant slalom.

The FIS subsequently annulled her results, maintaining she had met qualification criteria in events that had been deliberately set up to aid her quest.

Mae was banned for four years by the FIS but she was subsequently cleared of all charges by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.

Mae said in a statement: ""The fact that the International Ski Federation has apologised to me says it all.

"It was a hard fight but we are happy it is all behind us now."
