Ireland's Finn Balor became the inaugural Universal Champion at WWE SummerSlam after beating Raw rival Seth Rollins.

Balor, who was only drafted to the main roster from NXT in July, prevailed during a fast-paced finish in Brooklyn on Sunday night, kicking out of one Pedigree, evading another and then dropkicking Rollins before landing a Coup de Grace from the turnbuckle.

The Wicklow-born wrestler, who wore his Demon King bodypaint during his WWE pay-per-view debut, started briskly, attempting an initial Coup de Grace at the start of the match-up.

Balor pinned Rollins just shy of the 20-minute mark inside The Barclays Center to become just the second former NXT Champion to win a world title in WWE - the other man being Rollins.

Sasha Banks, another former NXT standout, shipped the WWE Women's Championship to Charlotte at SummerSlam, having won the gold from Ric Flair's daughter on the July 25 edition of Raw.

Banks looked poised to retain her belt when she caught Charlotte in her Bank Statement move but the challenger rocked back to press her opponent's shoulders to the mat and secure the pin.

Dean Ambrose beat Dolph Ziggler with Dirty Deeds to remain WWE Champion - The Lunatic Fringe mocking his rival's mannerisms throughout - while Intercontinental Champion The Miz saw off Apollo Crews.

Big E returned from his groin injury to punish his attackers Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows - the powerhouse's interjection ensuring Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston lost to Anderson and Gallows via disqualification but retained the WWE Tag Team Titles.

Big E's appearance proved timely for Jon Stewart, too, with the former host of The Daily Show, who had accompanied Woods and Kingston for their match, about to be hurled into the ring post by Anderson and Gallows.

Rusev's United States Championship defence against Roman Reigns ended in a no contest, with the fighters assaulting each other before the match could officially begin.

Officials decided Rusev, who was cracked with a steel chair, was unable to continue, although his evening got worse when Reigns returned to floor him with a spear on the entrance ramp.
