Alberto Del Rio has been released from his WWE contract, the company announced on Friday.

Del Rio was suspended for 30 days on August 18 for violating WWE's wellness policy, making his singles defeat to John Cena on the August 16 edition of Smackdown his final match for the company.

"WWE and Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) have mutually agreed upon the terms of his release," read a statement on WWE.com.

"My business relationship with @WWE has come to an end in good terms... thanks for the opportunities they gave me," Del Rio tweeted.

Del Rio, who won the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Title on two occasions each, returned to WWE last October having initially been released in August 2014.

The Mexican beat John Cena at Hell in a Cell in his first match back to win the United States Championship, a title he would earn for a second time while feuding with Kalisto in early 2016.
