AJ Lee has retired from WWE with immediate effect.

A statement on WWE’s official website read: “AJ Lee (April Mendez) has decided to retire from in-ring competition with WWE. We wish AJ the very best.”

Lee, a former three-time Divas Champion, competed in her final match on the March 30 edition of Monday Night Raw, teaming with Paige and Naomi to defeat Natalya and The Bella Twins.

Lee and Paige had also bested The Bella Twins 24 hours earlier at WrestleMania, with Lee forcing Nikki Bella to tap out the Black Widow in front of over 76,000 fans at Levi’s Stadium.

The New Jersey native made her WWE main roster debut in May 2011 and would go on to both partner and feud with Kaitlyn, as well as battle the likes of Natalya, Paige, Layla and Summer Rae.

Lee also acted as a valet for Daniel Bryan, Kane, John Cena, Dolph Ziggler and Big E, while she enjoyed a stint as the General Manager of Monday Night Raw, too.

The 28-year-old is married to former WWE competitor CM Punk aka Phil Brooks, who is currently preparing for his Ultimate Fighting Championship bow later this year.

Lee's departure comes just days after NXT Superstar CJ Parker was released from his contract.
