WWE officials, producers and Smackdown general manager Daniel Bryan were needed to prise McMahon off Owens, who has since threatened legal action.

Bryan confirmed McMahon has been suspended indefinitely and WWE chairman Vince McMahon will make a rare appearance next week to sort out the situation.

Elsewhere on Smackdown, Shinsuke Nakamura became the new No 1 contender for the WWE Championship by beating Randy Orton.

Nakamura countered two RKOs and eventually hit his brutal Kinshasa knee strike to knock off the veteran and line up a second shot at Jinder Mahal at Hell in a Cell next month.
