Zach LaVine will miss at least the next two Chicago Bulls games and needs further evaluation on his injured ankle.
LaVine is one of very few bright spots in a disappointing season for the Bulls, who 6-23 record sees them bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.
The guard is averaging 23.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game and leads the team in scoring.
He was injured against the Orlando Magic in Mexico City on Thursday and is wearing a walking boot.
Coach Jim Boylen said LaVine had a sprained deltoid ligament and had flown home to Chicago for further examinations.
"Zach LaVine had a MRI last night and flew home this morning to consult with other specialists," Boylen said before the Bulls faced the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday evening.
"We will create a plan of action [when we know more]. Hopeful for a good evaluation. He will not play tonight or Monday."
The Bulls have spent long spells this season without star players Lauri Markkanen and Kris Dunn, although both have now returned to action.
