The Milwaukee Bucks and point guard Eric Bledsoe have agreed to a four-year, $70 million contract extension, the organisation confirmed on Friday.
The 29-year-old could have become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but has chosen to commit his future to the team with the best record in the NBA this season.
Bledsoe is averaging 15.9 points, 5.5 assists and 4.7 rebounds in 61 games this season and produced one of the best performances of his campaign to lead the Bucks to victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night.
"We have agreed in principle to a contract extension with @EBled2 and are moving toward finalizing it," Bucks general manager Jon Horst said via a statement on Twitter.
"We are excited to have Eric continue to be a core part of the team."
The Bucks acquired the point guard from the Phoenix Suns early last season after Bledsoe and the Suns had a falling out, which saw the player expressing his discontent with the situation on social media.
Bledsoe has proved a good fit with a Bucks squad that includes All-Star forwards Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton and has exceeded expectations to post a 48-14 record.
Asked about the new contract following Friday night's victory over the Lakers, Bledsoe said: "I'm just happy to be a Milwaukee Buck."
Bledsoe played his first three NBA seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers before playing his next four with the Suns. He has career averages of 14.0 points, 4.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds.
