Former team-mates Kyrie Irving and LeBron James each scored 30 points in an entertaining duel as the Boston Celtics defeated the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night.
Encounters between the pair have made for interesting viewing since Irving requested a trade just a year after they had won the 2016 NBA title with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and both men delivered once more.
James set the tempo with a big slam early on, but Irving managed to draw adulation from the Lakers fans at Staples Center with a reverse layup following a stunning behind-the-back dribble.
James, who bagged a triple-double with 30 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists, almost inadvertently slowed Irving down, catching him with an elbow on a successful drive to the basket.
However, Irving wasn't to be denied on this occasion, and recovered to deliver more impressive scoring in the fourth quarter and wrap up a 120-107 triumph for the Celtics.
It was a third successive win for the Celtics on their west coast road trip, following impressive victories over the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings.
