Rondae Hollis-Jefferson hit a dramatic game-winner and D'Angelo Russell scored 44 points as the Brooklyn Nets erased a 25-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Sacramento Kings.
The Kings appeared to be in total control of the game, leading 103-78 after three quarters. But the Nets, whose fighting spirit has become a key component of their success this season, simply refused to lose.
Brooklyn unleashed a fourth-quarter rally that the Kings were unable to withstand. Russell erupted for 27 of his career-high 44-point haul in the final period as the Nets outscored Sacramento 45-18.
Russell scored eight points during a 10-0 run as the Nets moved within 107-97 with 7:22 left. Jared Dudley buried a three-pointer, and Russell added two free throws to bring Brooklyn within 109-104 with 4:43 remaining.
Russell buried back-to-back three-pointers to pull the Nets within 116-114 with 2:08 remaining. He added two more baskets, and Dudley drained a three-pointer with 1:11 left to give Brooklyn a 121-119 edge. Kings point guard De'Aaron Fox made two free throws with 46.8 seconds left to tie the score at 121.
With 5.9 seconds remaining, the Nets' Joe Harris inbounded the ball to Hollis-Jefferson beyond the three-point arc. The Brooklyn forward teased Kings defender Marvin Bagley III out to the perimeter then blew by him into the lane and drove strong to the hoop.
As Bagley desperately tried to recover his ground, Hollis-Jefferson lofted an acrobatic reverse lay-up that kissed off the rim and through Sacramento's basket with 0.8 seconds left on the clock.
With no timeout's remaining, the Kings were unable to respond and the Nets completed a dramatic 123-121 victory and gave Hollis-Jefferson an impromptu shower as he tried to conduct his post-game interview.
