Stephen Curry drained eight treys to pass Ray Allen's all-time mark for career playoff three-pointers made as the Warriors beat the Clippers

Stephen Curry produced an historic performance, breaking the all-time playoff record for three-pointers made, as the Golden State Warriors beat the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series.

Curry poured in a game-high 38 points and snagged a career-playoff-high 15 rebounds as the Warriors opened the defence of their NBA title with a 121-104 Game 1 win.

Curry's haul included eight three-pointers (from 12 attempts) on a night when he passed Ray Allen's NBA all-time career playoff record of 385 triples. Curry finished the game with 386 career threes.

Allen played in 171 postseason games to set that mark. Curry has taken just 91 playoff appearances to pass him.

Curry's 38-point game was his 31st in postseason play with 30 or more. The Warriors have gone 28-3 in those games. His previous high for rebounds in a playoff game was 10, done four times.

Curry described being in the record books as a special experience, after reaching 386 three-pointers in the playoffs, the most in NBA history

Speaking after the game, Curry said: "It's pretty special. I always talk about longevity and any time you can pass the all-time great shooters like Ray Allen and Reggie Miller, it's pretty special. I shoot a lot of [threes] so I have to make a lot of them!"
