Klay Thompson hit a clutch three-pointer with 36.1 seconds remaining to seal the Golden State Warriors' 4-2 series win over the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference semi-finals.
Without their injured leading scorer Kevin Durant, the scoring onus fell on 'Splash Brothers' Thompson and Stephen Curry. Both delivered to propel the Warriors to a 118-113 victory that secured their place in the Western Conference Finals for a record-equalling fifth consecutive time.
It took a few minutes for Thompson to find his shooting groove, but once he did nobody could stop him. He poured in 21 first-half points, shooting 5-of-9 from beyond the arc.
Thompson saved his biggest and best three-ball for late in the game. The Rockets had rallied to within three points in the game's final minute when With Houston trailing 107-104, Curry ran a pick-and-roll with Draymond Green, dishing the ball to the Warriors' defensive specialist in space.
Green advanced inside the Rockets' three-point line and, faced by Rockets center Clint Capela, threw a kick-out pass to Andre Iguodala in the corner. 'Iggy' moved the ball onto Thompson fired a quick-release three-pointer over onrushing Houston defender PJ Tucker that nestled in the Rockets' net, doubling the Warriors' lead to six points and effectively icing the game and series.
With the Rockets fouling to stop the clock, Curry made 8-of-8 free throws in the final 30 seconds to close out a 4-2 series win.
