Champions Surrey Storm are just one point away from the Superleague semi-finals after a 52-42 win over Loughborough Lightning.

In a clash between top-four rivals, Surrey held a narrow 35-34 lead after the third quarter, but pulled away to claim a comfortable win that left them in striking distance of Manchester Thunder and Hertfordshire Mavericks, who are still tied at the top after their fixture was abandoned.

Surrey head coach Kathyrn Ratnapala made changes at half-time and the introduction of Amy Flanagan and Josie Huckle appeared to lift the Storm as they took command in the closing 15 minutes.

Hannah Reid produced a resolute defensive display for Surrey, pulling off an agile interception in the last quarter, and Loughborough slipped to a defeat which dealt a major blow to their semi-final hopes.

Elsewhere in the Superleague, Team Northumbria moved up to sixth in the table after a 50-45 win over Yorkshire Jets.

This result left the rock-bottom Jets still without a win ahead of Monday's trip to Hertfordshire Mavericks, live on Sky Sports.
