England missed out on a series win over New Zealand

England were pipped in the series decider by New Zealand, who triumphed 62-55 after a final-quarter burst on Wednesday.

The Roses had led 30-26 at half-time and were level at 47 apiece during the final quarter before the host nation turned the screw to win the Taini Jamison Trophy.

Helen Housby had reduced the deficit to three points as the seconds counted down, but when she missed her next attempt, England were punished by New Zealand's Maria Tutaia.

England had earlier taken a lead in the second quarter after back-to-back goals from Jo Harten and, after leading at the mid-way point, sustained their advantage into the third period.

Bailey Mes and Tutaia overturned the score in New Zealand's favour, giving them a 44-43 lead with 15 minutes to play, and they stormed clear towards the conclusion to claim the series' trophy.

England had forced Wednesday's decider after bouncing back from an opening match 62-55 defeat to win the second contest 49-46.
