Yorkshire Jets' winning run came to an end in Leeds on Friday night as they were beaten 69-56 by the Netball Superleague’s second placed side Surrey Storm.
The contest was an exciting, high-scoring affair with 125 points scored in a game watched by a sell-out crowd, including the newly-appointed England Netball coach Tracey Neville.
It was a tightly-contested first quarter, with end-to-end action for most of the opening exchanges, but Storm managed to pull out a narrow lead and ended the first 15 minutes three points ahead.
In the second, the heavy scoring continued with Surrey pulling ahead to lead by 10 at one point – but Jets managed to claw the gap back to six and went into the break trailing 30 points to 36.
Storm’s strength showed after half-time as they extended their lead to nine by the end of the third quarter.
In a tense final 15 minutes, Jets refused to accept defeat with Jess Shaw and Sally Butters, named Player of the Match, strong in mid-court once again. At one point Jets narrowed the gap to just two but then Storm were just too strong and they managed to close out the game with a 13-point win.
