The 26-year-old Welshman started his remarkable run in the preliminary round and is now just one victory away from the final after he inflicted a 5-0 defeat on Webster at Alexandra Palace on Friday.

Lewis ended with a 101.26 average after racking up his 14th 180 in the match and Harrington believes the more established names in the tournament would have been proud of his dominant performance.

Harrington told Sky Sports: "On Saturday, it will be even harder to get over the finishing line, because obviously someone is going to be a lot closer to him as well. But what he did to Darren Webster, from the very first three darts, he just led all the way.

"You could see it was wearing Darren down. It does everybody. Every time he thought he was going to get back in, Jamie Lewis hit a 140 or a 180, or a couple of 140s on the trot.

If we were talking about a Michael van Gerwen or a Phil Taylor, Gary Anderson, we would be saying what a great performance.

"He just never gave him a chance to get into that game whatsoever. If we were talking about a Michael van Gerwen or a Phil Taylor, Gary Anderson, we would be saying what a great performance.

"This has come from a young man that's only just starting in this game."

Fellow Sky Sports expert John Part was equally impressed by Lewis, but questioned whether his lack of experience at major tournaments could prove a factor in Saturday's semi-final against Phil Taylor, who defeated Gary Anderson on Friday night.

Lewis reflects on his quarter-final win over Darren Webster

"That was his best performance so far. He needed it, he came up with it," said Part.

"You can say to yourself he has a very good chance in a semi-final. The only difference is - it's not the same sort of occasion. A lot different playing a semi-final to get to the final, than it is second round.

"Jamie Lewis, we know he has the firepower, the finishing, he's got everything really. He's got a good head on him, but it's still new to him, so we'll see how he can roll along on Saturday."

The 2018 World Championship from Alexandra Palace continues with Super Saturday as coverage of both semi-finals gets underway from 7pm on Sky Sports Darts, Sky Sports Main Event & Sky Sports Mix.
