Reports say the Hitman has penned one-year deal with California club

Two-time Pro Bowl standout Bob Sanders is understood to have agreed a one-year deal with the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers revealed on their official website the former Indianapolis Colts player had joined for the new season but it remains unclear whether the Pro Bowl safety has signed. Team spokesman Bill Johnston claims the news is premature and there has been no announcement planned for the 30-year-old. But General Manager A.J. Smith said: "We are all very excited to add Bob Sanders to our defence. We have always held him in high regard. He's a smart, physical, instinctive player. His intensity and playmaking ability can make an immediate impact on our defence." There appears to be some confusion over when Sanders can actually sign a contract, due to the status of labor talks. The NFL and players' union decided Thursday to keep the current collective bargaining agreement in place for an additional 24 hours so that negotiations can continue. Sanders, the 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, was released by the Colts last month after frequently picking up injuries.
