The Seattle Seahawks improved their play-off hopes with a battling 24-14 win over the Eagles in Philadelphia.

Russell Wilson had a hand in all three of the Seahawks' touchdowns and their defense stifled the Eagles for long spells as they managed a paltry 139 yards of total offense.

Things started brightly for Philly when Mark Sanchez threw a screen pass to Jeremy Maclin for a one-yard touchdown to give them a 7-0 lead.

But, with LeSean McCoy ineffective on the ground and Sanchez struggling to avoid turnovers, the Super Bowl champions dominated most of the game to improve to 9-4 and make it five wins from their last six games.

Wilson scored from 26 yards on the ground to level the scores and Steven Hausckha gave Seattle a 10-7 lead at the half with a 44-yard field goal.

Marshawn Lynch hauled in a Wilson pass for a 15-yard score and, after Zach Ertz replied with a rare big Philadelphia play, Wilson capped victory with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin.

The Arizona Cardinals also moved a step closer to the play-offs with a tense 17-14 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, and they retain a game lead over the Seahawks in the NFC West.

Two touchdowns from Jamaal Charles were all the Chiefs could muster on offense and Jaron Brown's 26-yard reception from Drew Stanton proved the difference between the sides in the end.

Chandler Catanzaro scored the remaining nine Arizona points with three field goals, but two misses from the rookie kicker kept Kansas in the game right until the closing seconds.

CJ Anderson scored three touchdowns for the Denver Broncos as they held on for a 24-17 win over the plucky Buffalo Bills.

Anderson only rushed for 58 yards on 21 carries but he managed scores from six, one and three yards on a day when Peyton Manning struggled mightily, failing to throw a TD pass for the first time in four years.

Kyle Orton gave the Bills hope of overtime in the final minute with a one-yard sneak but they were unable to recover the onside kick and Denver, like Arizona, improved their record to 10-3.

The San Francisco 49ers are just about out of contention for a post-season berth after slumping to a 24-13 defeat at the previously 1-11 Oakland Raiders.

Derek Carr threw three touchdown passes for the Raiders in probably the best start of his NFL career, Mychal Rivera catching one of them as he piled up 109 receiving yards.
