Jamaican sprinter warms up for Olympics with season's best time
Asafa Powell scorched to his third consecutive 100 metres win at the Monaco Grand Prix in a season's best time of 9.82 seconds.
The Jamaican, making his final major appearance before the Olympics, came home well clear of second-placed Darvis Patton (9.98s). Nesta Carter took third in 10.02s.
Only Powell's fellow Jamaican Usain Bolt and America's world champion Tyson Gay - neither of whom lined-up in Monaco - have run quicker this season.
"I am very happy," said Powell, who also won the 100m in Stockholm and London during the past seven days.
"I feel great, very fresh. I've got a world record in my legs. I am very confident. My goal is to be consistent."
Meanwhile another Jamaican, Melaine Walker, won the women's 400 metres hurdles in 53.48s, the fastest time in the world third year.
And Daniel Kipchirchir Komen also recorded the year's fastest time in the men's 1,500 metres.
The Kenyan crossed the finish line in three minutes 31.49s to take 0.08s off compatriot Augustine Kiprono Choge's June 1 showing in Berlin.
There was also a world record on Tuesday evening in Monaco from Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva.
