Lindsey Vonn's first Olympic race in eight years ended without a medal as Ester Ledecka won a surprise gold in the super-G. in Pyeongchang.

Vonn, first out of the starting gate, was on a fast run until going too wide on a turn near the bottom to finish tied sixth with Federica Brignone of Italy.

"I thought it was either going to be really great or really bad," Vonn said. "And it didn't quite turn out the way I'd hoped. I didn't really have a choice in the matter so I did the best that I could.

"Just made one mistake, and that cost me a medal."

"I am so surprised about all of it. I'm really trying to win and do a good run every time, but I didn't really realise that this really can happen."
