There was an introduction for robots at the Winter Olympic games on Monday, as the slopes of Pyeongchang played host to mechanical competitors.

The first robot skiing event was held at the Games where nations had to navigate a slalom course.

Robots of an assortment of shapes and sizes may their way down the course, some more successfully than others.

The event was not an official Olympic competition, but rather a chance for the country to show off robotic technology on a global platform.

"Our robots cannot race in the Olympics so we organised this race during the Olympic period so that we can show South Korea's robotic technology to the world," said Kim Dong-Uk, organiser of the ski robot challenge.
