Canada and Germany shared the two-man bobsleigh Winter Olympic gold medal after the race finished as a dead heat

Canada and Germany shared gold after a dramatic dead heat in the men's Olympic two-man bobsleigh in Pyeongchang on Monday.

Canadian pilot Justin Kripps and brakeman Alexander Kopacz could not be separated from Germany's Francesco Friedrich and Thorsten Margis after four runs - both registered times of 3:16.86 minutes.

It's the third time the top two sleds have finished tied in an Olympic two-man race.

Canada and Italy shared gold in 1998 and Italy got the gold over West Germany in 1968, even though both sleds had the same time. The Olympics then utilised a fastest-heat tiebreaker, which gave Italy the nod.

Meanwhile, bronze went to Lativa's Oskars Melbardis and Janis Strenga, who finished 0.05 seconds back in the closest three-sled finish in Olympic history.
