Daniel Purvis only began in gymnastics when his parents signed him up to control his overactive behaviour.
At the age of seven, he joined his local gymnastics club in Southport and has developed and improved ever since.
His breakthrough really came in 2006, with a gold medal in the parallel bars at the world school's championships.
And in 2010 he took a further step up by winning bronze in the floor event at the world championships in Rotterdam.
At the 2011 European championships, Purvis claimed the bronze in the individual all-around final as well as winning the gold medal at Glasgow's World Cup in the same year.
The 21-year-old retained his British all-around title in September 2011, followed by a fourth-place finish in the same event at the world championships.
At the beginning of 2012, the London test event at the North Greenwich Arena saw Purvis and Louis Smith win gold in the individual apparatus finals.
This was ideal preparation for this year's main event which Purvis is now working towards after the men's team gained qualification in January.
