Jackie Joyner-Kersee is probably best known as being the first American to win gold in the long jump event.
A four-time Olympian, Joyner-Kersee won the long jump gold medal at the 1988 Games, as well as the long jump bronze in 1992 and 1996.
Meanwhile in the Olympic heptathlon competitions throughout her career, she won the silver medal in 1984 and the gold medal in 1988 and 1992.
She also won four World Outdoor Championships gold medals, as well as the national long jump title nine times and the national championship in the heptathlon on eight occasions.
Since moving on from athletics, she is just as proud of her achievements off the track. She created the JJK Community Foundation- which supports the development of leadership programs in urban areas across the US as well as being a motivational speaker.
