Romania's Alin George Moldoveanu claimed gold in the men's 10m air rifle shooting event on Monday.
Moldoveanu won a ding-dong battle with Italy's world number one Niccolo Campriani to be crowned Olympic champion.
The lead changed hands several times in the final but Moldoveanu finally nailed down the gold with his last effort of 10.3 leaving him 0.6 points ahead of his rival with a total of 702.1.
The duo had earlier equalled the Olympic record of 599 in qualifying to show they were the men to beat.
Reigning champion Abhinav Bindra, of India, disappointed, finishing only 16th in qualifying and failing to make it through to the eight-man final.
However, the Indian fans who packed into the range at Woolwich did at least see Gagan Narang take the bronze.
Great Britain's James Huckle also missed out on the final, the 21-year-old finishing in 24th place.
Skeet
America's Vincent Hancock leads the men's skeet after the first round of
qualifying, which continues on Tuesday.
Plymouth's Rory Warlow scored 70 out of 75 in the first qualifying round and is four points behind the leader.
Newbury's Richard Brickell is a point further back, and both will need to shoot
close to the maximum 50 over the final two rounds on Tuesday if they are to progress.
