Jim Thome blasted his 599th and 600th home runs as Minnesota defeated American League Central leaders Detroit 9-6 on Monday. Thome, who became the eighth man to join the 600 club, produced a two-run shot in the sixth and a three-run blast in the seventh to see the Twins home. The New York Yankees moved into a tie with Boston in the American League East, courtesy of a 7-4 win over Kansas City. Derek Jeter teed up the win with a two-run triple in the sixth. Toronto slipped to a 5-4 defeat at the hands of Seattle, while Ian Kinsler contributed four hits and three runs as Texas beat the Los Angeles Angels 8-4.

The National League's hottest team, Central leaders Milwaukee, closed out a 3-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers courtesy of eight blank frames from starter Randy Wolf. The Brewers also picked up just the third triple play in franchise history alongside four double plays. Atlanta edged a 5-4 win over San Francisco with Freddie Freeman liberating the bases in the bottom of the ninth for the walk-off win. The Chicago Cubs made it 12 wins from 15 games as they ditched Houston 4-3 - Carlos Pena and Geovany Soto chalking up two runs each. Pittsburgh defeated St Louis 6-2 as James McDonald picked up his eighth starting win and Ryan Doumit contributed four hits. Florida went down 7-4 to Colorado, with Jason Giambi blasting Marlins closer Leo Nunez for a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth. The New York Mets came through in overtime against San Diego, a single run in the 10th sealing a 5-4 victory.
