Jim Thome blasted his 599th and 600th home runs as
Minnesota defeated American League Central leaders
Detroit 9-6 on Monday.
Thome, who became the eighth man to join the 600 club, produced a two-run shot in the sixth and a three-run blast in the seventh to see the Twins home.
The
New York Yankees moved into a tie with
Boston in the American League East, courtesy of a 7-4 win over
Kansas City. Derek Jeter teed up the win with a two-run triple in the sixth.
Toronto slipped to a 5-4 defeat at the hands of
Seattle, while Ian Kinsler contributed four hits and three runs as
