Conor McGregor has been fined $150,000 (£121,000) and ordered to do 50 hours of community service for his bust-up with Nate Diaz during a press conference in August.

The Irish UFC featherweight champion and his American rival threw water bottles at each other during the media gathering in Las Vegas to promote their rematch.

McGregor's late arrival prompted Diaz to leave early and the pair traded insults before several water bottles and cans were hurled by both camps.

A member of security sustained a minor injury from a can thrown by the Irishman, according to the Nevada attorney general's office.

The unsavoury incident was shown extensively during fight week ahead of UFC 202.

'Notorious' did not attend the hearing in person but apologised via telephone from Ireland and promised to learn from his mistakes.

"This fight had everything on the line for me," said McGregor. "It was a very unusual incident as I saw it unfolding. I just acted wrong, and all I can say is I'm sorry and I will learn from this.

"I was in a different mindset. So all I can do is learn from it and learn to handle myself better if I find myself in a situation like that.

"I just want to own up and apologise for my part and say that it will not happen in the future. That's really all I can say."

Diaz's hearing was postponed to a later date.
