Triple Olympic champion undergoes surgery

Australian star Stephanie Rice expects to be back in the pool before Christmas after undergoing surgery on her right shoulder. The 23-year-old triple Olympic champion underwent an operation to repair a torn tendon in her right shoulder. It was the same joint that forced her out of last year's Commonwealth Games in Beijing and is less than ideal preparation for the Olympic trials which start in Adelaide on March 15. Rice, who won both the 200 metres and 400m individual medley as well as being part of Australia's triumphant 4x200m freestyle relay, wrote on her Twitter account: "I have just undergone an arthroscopy on my right shoulder which had a small tear in the tendon. "Everything else was a-ok and should be back in the water before Christmas. "Surgery went really well. Surprised with how much movement I've already got back in my shoulder."
