Wetherby Racecourse has announced plans to replace the Members' Grandstand with a new £3.2million structure.

During its 55-year lifespan, the building has been used as a jockeys' changing and weighing room as well as a members' restaurant and has been home to several bars.

The owners and trainers bar and the paddock viewing gallery, as well as the press and media room, are currently located there along with the judge's box, photo-finish cameras and the racecourse commentator's position all being on the roof.

Proposals for a new stand have been submitted to Leeds City Council with the hope being that once permission has been granted, work will begin in June 2016.

Wetherby officials hope the project will be completed in spring 2017, without the need to relocate any fixtures.

The new building will include bars and betting shops on the ground floor, owners and trainers facilities on the first floor, with views of both the paddock to the south and final furlong to the north, as well as a new stewards' room and press room.

The second floor will have hospitality boxes and a Premium Enclosure while on the top floor there will be photo finish facilities and commentary box.
