Race named in honour of Michael Owen's Brown Panther at the Curragh

Brown Panther is to be commemorated at the Curragh with a race named in his honour.

The Tom Dascombe-trained stayer won the Irish St Leger at the track in 2014 but lost his his life when attempting a repeat win in the same race last September.

The race in which Brown Panther will be remembered is a Listed event over 12 furlongs on October 9.

Part-owner and breeder Michael Owen said: "It was an honour to own and breed Brown Panther.

"He was a wonderful horse and to lose him was heartbreaking.
