Jenna Brooks has the latest from the NRL as Sam Burgess is sent to the sin bin, plus could Kurt Gidley be headed back to the NRL?

Burgess Binned

Sam Burgess returned to action with a bang after recovering from a glute strain in time to help his team to a huge 42-14 win over Penrith.

The South Sydney captain, who missed the Bunnies round 15 win over the Titans due to the injury, was sent to the sin-bin after being involved in a brawl.

Burgess made two back-to-back big hits, which resulted in both sets of players coming together. Despite no punches thrown, the England international and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak were sent to the bin for the incident, leaving Burgess confused by the decision.

"I guess it's the game we play at the moment. I wouldn't have pushed back if someone hadn't have run in from 15 metres, Burgess said. "It's the rules and the game that we play these days. You've just got to wear it. I'm certainly disappointed."

Burgess went on to score his fifth try of the season, but it was Alex Johnston who stole the headlines, scoring a record-equalling five tries to complete the win.

Gidley Returns

Could Kurt Gidley be considering a return to the NRL?

The Warrington playmaker will retire at the end of the season, but Newcastle CEO Matt Gidley has hinted that his younger brother could return to Australia in a coaching capacity.

"Kurt would love to stay involved in the game," Gidley told News Corp Australia.

"There are no arrangements in place at the moment to come back and work with the club, but I know he has now turned his mind to the fact he is retiring and he is starting to have some conversations about what he may do when he comes home."

Gidley's brother confirmed the former Australia international is passionate about the strength and conditioning side of things and that it's something he's been working towards.

"At what level I'm not sure yet, but he is hoping to be involved in the game at some level in a strength and conditioning or coaching capacity."

Hodkinson Move

Could Trent Hodkinson be in line to replace Gidley at Warrington next year?

It's been a challenging season in the NRL for Hodkinson, and the playmaker has been linked with a move to Super League.

The Newcastle halfback played in just his eighth NRL game of the season on Sunday against the Tigers, having spent the previous seven on the bench, and it's believed he's weighing up his options.

Newcastle For Sale

Reports in Australia suggest Gidley's former club Newcastle is set to be sold to the Wests Leagues club group, in a multi-million dollar deal that is expected to be announced before the end of the week.

The Daily Telegraph believes the new buyers will support coach Nathan Brown in a deal that will benefit the club in the long-term.

As part of the agreement, the deal is believed to include a $10m commitment to a new centre of excellence, as well as a cash investment into grassroots football.
