Sydney Roosters star Mitchell Pearce has been put on gardening leave by his club after a video emerged showing him simulating a lewd act with a dog.
The NRL club - which is discussing his conduct this week - is not ruling out sacking Pearce, who is the team's co-captain, with a fine or suspension alternative punishments.
Roosters coach Trent Robinson said: "We are going through it with the NRL (National Rugby League). It is too difficult to make a comment.
"The Sydney Roosters have found that Mitchell's behaviour was unacceptable and that's why he's been stood down up until this matter is resolved.
"I've had discussions with him both yesterday and this morning and that will continue."
A drunken Pearce, who has apologised for his behaviour, was filmed at Australia Day celebrations on Tuesday and the video has caused a huge furore in the country.
A club statement read: "The club wishes to advise that Mitchell Pearce has been stood down from all training commitments until the club concludes its internal investigation."
