Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have signed NRL Australian half-back Sam Williams on a one-year deal, the club confirmed on Thursday.
Williams has put pen to paper with the Super League franchise for the 2017 season, moving from NRL side Canberra Raiders.
This is not the first time the 25-year-old has left the Raiders on a one-year deal to Europe, having previously spent the 2014 season playing in France with the Catalans Dragons.
"I am very excited to join Wakefield, and it is a family club with such a close knit community," said Williams.
"I'm looking forward to being able to work with Chris Chester, I have heard good things from Josh Hodgson on his coaching and I am now excited to be a part of it and am looking forward to what the future holds."
Williams has enjoyed a fruitful couple of seasons since rejoining the Raiders, and was named at halfback in the 2016 Intrust Super Premiership NSW Team of the Tear.
Williams will now provide competition and cover for both Jacob Miller and Liam Finn at the Wildcats.
"Sam Williams is a great signing for the club and a big coup. A number of Super League clubs were chasing his signature and I am delighted that he has chosen to play at Wakefield," said Chester.
"I would like to thank Ricky Stuart and the Canberra Raiders for helping us make the signing happen. Sam will bring a wealth of experience and a good kicking game along with being a good leader on and off the field."
Wakefield chairman Michael Carter added: "Having spoken to Sam at length, I am delighted that this young man has agreed to join us. I look forward to seeing him don the red, white and blue jersey next season."
