Castleford carry on signing ahead of next Super League season

Castleford have confirmed the signing of centre James Evans on a one-year contract. The 29-year-old was released by the Bradford Bulls on Monday, clearing the way for his expected move to the Tigers. Born in Australia, Evans started his career in the NRL with the Canberra Raiders before moving to England to join Huddersfield in 2004. After a brief loan spell with Wakefield he signed with Bradford and has been a regular over the past two seasons at the Grattan Odsal Stadium.

Highly rated

"I have worked with James Evans before and rate him very highly," Castleford coach Terry Matterson said of his latest recruit. "He has always been regarded as a solid performer, but this past couple of years has seen him blossom into a very influential player whose experience and ability on both attack and defence will be a big asset to our threequarter line." Evans admits he is excited by the move to Castleford, who have overhauled their playing squad for next year after being awarded a Super League licence.
New faces
Former captain Ryan Hudson has agreed to return to the Tigers while Stuart Jones has arrived from Huddersfield and Rangi Chase, Dean Widders and Sione Faumuina have been drafted in from overseas. "I'm looking forward to joining the Tigers and playing under Terry, who coached me for a time at Canberra," he added. "I think that these are exciting times for Cas and it looks as if they have a big future. "They have been playing some tremendous rugby in recent weeks and have showed the potential for next year, and with some new faces coming on board I feel that they can go really well."
