St Helens man admits he has to make career decision

St Helens full-back Paul Wellens has admitted that he may have played his last international game. Wellens, along with other big-name players, was criticised for his performances during England's disappointing World Cup campaign. "I'm not playing well enough to get into the England squad," Wellens told the St Helens Reporter. "To be honest, the international thing is not something I've really thought about.

Decisions

"I don't think I'm playing well enough to be selected anyway. Plus, there's not an England squad at the moment so it is really an academic question." The 28-year-old dropped a hint that that he might be joining Saints team-mates Keiron Cunningham and Sean Long in international retirement. "On the one hand, I love playing for England and it is a massive privilege, but on the other hand there are certain times when you have to make decisions that are the best one for you and your career." Wellens has played 20 times for Great Britain and represented England 11 times. This year he will play in his testimonial season for Saint Helens.
