Australia and Brisbane Broncos skipper Darren Lockyer will retire at the end of the current NRL season.
The 34-year-old said it was 'time to move on' after completing his 17th season.
The Kangaroos legend has played in 336 NRL games to date, helping the Broncos to four premierships, and has also played in 54 Tests and 33 State of Origin matches for Queensland.
"I'm still enjoying playing and excited about the Broncos for the rest of 2011," Lockyer said in a statement released by the club.
"It will be hard to leave my team-mates at the Broncos but I know the timing is right."
"I've had a wonderful career as a rugby league player and I just feel it's time to move on to the next chapter."
