Hasler now expeted to take up Canterbury role early

Coach Des Hasler has been stood down by Australian champions Manly Sea Eagles following alleged breaches of contract. Hasler last month agreed to a four-year deal to coach Canterbury Bulldogs from 2013 but was expected to stay on at Manly for the 2012 season - which includes the World Club Challenge against Leeds Rhinos in February. However, he has been issued with a breach notice amid allegations that he had attempted to induce players to leave the club. "The Manly Warringah board has met this evening and are of the opinion that there has been serious breaches of contract by coach Des Hasler," the club said in a statement.

"The board has invited Des to explain his actions and in the meantime he has been stood down. "We will not be making any further comment until Des has had the chance to respond." The board's actions appear to have brought to an end Hasler's 27-year relationship with the Sea Eagles. He joined the club as a player in 1984 and has been coach since 2004. It is assumed Hasler's move to the Bulldogs will now be fast-tracked by 12 months, with assistant Geoff Toovey expected to replace him at the Manly helm.
