Hull coach Gentle impressed by new skipper in pre-season
New Hull coach Peter Gentle says making Andy Lynch his captain was an "obvious decision".
The 32-year-old prop, who joined Hull from Bradford for an undisclosed fee in the close season, impressed his new boss during a pre-season tour of Tenerife and will lead the team in their pre-season clash with local rivals Hull KR on Sunday.
"When I first met Andy, I could tell he exudes confidence and that he's got that leadership quality about him," Gentle said.
"So we had our eye on him from day one. We weren't going to name a captain until a week before the competition starts - we wanted to see how they went in the trials.
"But, after spending a week together in Tenerife and seeing how he interacted with the players and how they responded to him, it was an obvious decision.
"It's not going to affect the way he plays. He's been around and he's captained quite a few teams."
Lynch succeeds Australian Craig Fitzgibbon, who retired at the end of last season.
Gentle, who has chosen long-serving half-back Richard Horne as the team's new vice-captain, will also field other new signings Jamie Ellis, Aaron Heremaia, Brett Seymour, Wade McKinnon, Tony Martin and Martin Aspinwall against Rovers at the KC Stadium at the weekend.
