St Helens chairman Eamonn McManus has thanked the club’s players who have made their final appearances following the conclusion of the campaign.

Saints enjoyed a season to remember in 2014 by winning the Grand Final on Saturday with a 14-6 victory over bitter rivals Wigan Warriors on the back of clinching the League Leaders’ Shield.

A number of players have been with the club for a long time and have contributed both on and off the field to the cause. They have represented Saints professionally and we wish them all the best for the future.

One of St Helens’ try-scorers on Saturday, Sia Soliola, has signed a two-year deal with Canberra Raiders, while Paul Clough, who spent the season at Widnes, is joining Bradford Bulls.

Carl Forster will be playing for Salford Red Devils in 2015 while the likes of Gary Wheeler and Shannon McDonnell, who penned a short-term deal, have not been retained. Richard Beaumont has also been released halfway through a two-year deal.

With the lack of reserve team football and the current Academy structure - a scheme Saints vehemently voted against - the cub has reluctantly released youngsters James Tilley, Alex Clare and Connor Dwyer.

“It is always difficult when any player leaves the Saints as they have become part of the family we have at the club,” McManus told the club’s official website.

“A number of players have been with the club for a long time and have contributed both on and off the field to the cause. They have represented Saints professionally and we wish them all the best for the future.

“Our Past Players Association ensures the links with these players are never forgotten and we look forward to welcoming them back to Langtree Park in the future.”
