2014 Four Nations: England's Brett Ferres relishing Sunday's clash against Australia

Huddersfield Giants’ Brett Ferres insists England cannot wait to take on Australia in Melbourne on Sunday in the 2014 Four Nations series.

England are aiming to make history over the weekend as a victory would take them through to a first Tri or Four Nations final in the southern hemisphere.

The 28-year-old has retained his place in Steve McNamara’s England squad to take on the Kangaroos on the back of last Saturday’s 32-26 success over a plucky Samoa.

Ferres played against Australia in last year’s World Cup-opener at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, labelling playing against the world’s best as the ‘pinnacle’.

We can’t wait to get out there, particularly when we know how significant a win for us would be.

The Kangaroos are licking their wounds following a 30-12 to arch rivals New Zealand last weekend and Ferres knows how significant a win could be on Sunday.

“It’s always special playing for your country against the Australians. It’s the pinnacle of your career,” Ferres told the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.

Unbelieveable experience

“It was an unbelievable experience facing them in the World Cup opener last year, and I know it’s going to be just as special facing Australia in Australia.

“Obviously, I’m used to starting games, but Steve thinks I can add something different from the bench, so I’m happy to do what’s best for the team.

“It’s always going to be a tough call for the coach when selecting an England side because most players are regular starters at club level.

“But Steve’s in charge and, though it can’t be easy, he picks the side he thinks can do the job.

“The 17 which faces Australia is the same 17 that beat what was a really impressive Samoa side, so we’ll be heading into this weekend’s with confidence and with a win under our belts.

“As a result, we can’t wait to get out there, particularly when we know how significant a win for us would be.”
